Chief Minister DK Shivakumar attributed the recent advisory issued by the finance ministry to the alleged financial mismanagement of previous BJP governments.
Responding to questions from reporters at the KHB helipad at Hanur in Chamarajanagar district on Wednesday, Mr Shivakumar said that several projects were started without adequate budgetary allocations during former Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa’s tenure.
“It is because of such mismanagement by the previous BJP governments that the finance ministry officials have written to us,” he said.
Reporters cited a complaint by contractors that the government has yet to release payments in excess of ₹30,000 crore.
Mr. Shivakumar said that the work awarded during Mr. Yediyurappa’s tenure was nearing completion and that the bills had to be passed. “Contractors have to survive. I will look into the matter soon,” he said.
Asked about the State Contractors Association president’s claim that contractors are still being asked to pay percentage commissions, the chief minister said an inquiry would be ordered if the association submits an affidavit in this regard.
On the reported request for caste certificates from beneficiaries during the re-verification of beneficiaries under the Gruha Lakshmi scheme, Mr. Shivakumar said the government had prepared a new request to prevent people from other states from availing the scheme in Karnataka.
