Former IAS officer found dead at home in Bhopal

Seventy-year-old retired IAS officer Rakesh Agarwal was found dead with his throat slit at his home in Bhopal on Wednesday (September 30, 2026), police said.

An investigation is underway to determine the motive for the murder, according to them, the role of a domestic helper is suspected.

The police received information about the incident around 5 am. The crime took place in Suraj Nagar under Ratibad police station.

Agarwal lived in the house with his wife. She was sleeping in another room at the time of the incident, said an official from Ratibadu police station.

Senior police officers reached the spot shortly after receiving information about the incident.

A preliminary investigation pointed to a domestic help missing since the incident, he said.

According to the official, Agarwal’s family had hired a new domestic help just two days before and he is also untraceable.

A search was underway for the suspect. Police were also probing the motive behind the murder and other aspects of the case, the official added.
