Restrictions at Khajaguda Junction may push traffic onto internal roads; Cyberabad Police is mapping out three alternative routes

For those who commute via Khajaguda Junction, the familiar turn towards Nanakramguda may no longer be the fastest route home or to work for the next two months. The traffic restrictions imposed for the water pipeline work are expected to push vehicles through internal and alternative roads around one of the busy links to Hyderabad’s western corridor.

The restriction is in place for 60 days from September 26 to facilitate work on 900 mm and 1,000 mm diameter water pipes, according to an advisory issued by the Cyberabad traffic police.

Impact

Motorists traveling towards Nanakramgudu will feel the immediate impact. The service road and free movement on the left from KIMS Hospital towards Nanakramguda Road will be closed temporarily. Vehicles approaching Khajaguda Junction from the Biodiversity side will also not be allowed to take the usual right turn towards Nanakramguda Road.

After halting these movements, police warned commuters to expect traffic jams in and around Khajaguda Junction and plan their journeys accordingly.

Three approaches, different detours

Those approaching from the Shaikpet flyover side will have to leave the usual stretch in front of KIMS Hospital and take Timberlake Colony Road to join Nanakramguda Road. The diversion map issued for motorists from the Shaikpet flyover shows the traffic on the Khajaguda-Malkam Cheruvu side before it rejoins the Khajaguda-Nanakramguda road.

Route changes for motorists traveling under the Shaikpet flyover are varied. They were advised to use the High Voltage Road to bypass the affected junction. The traffic police map shows the alternative movement from the Old Mumbai Highway side towards Khajaguda-Nanakramguda Road via the roads around Malkam Cheruvu and Chitrapuri Colony.

Commuters coming from Gachibowli and Biodiversity Level-1 flyover face another diversion. Instead of proceeding to Khajaguda junction where you turn right towards Nanakramguda, vehicles will have to turn Pakwan and proceed via Khajaguda Lake Road. A separate diversion map issued for this approach will direct motorists from the Biodiversity side to the Khajaguda-Lanco Hills section.

For regular users of the junction, especially IT employees traveling towards the western corridor of the Hyderabad office, the diversions could mean an increase in commuting time, especially during peak hours.

Cyberabad Traffic Police has asked motorists to avoid the affected approaches as much as possible and use alternate routes during the works.
