In the 138th episode of his Mann ki Baat radio show on Sunday (September 27), Prime Minister Narendra Modi recalled the Indian Army’s surgical strikes on terrorist launch pads across the ceasefire in 2016, saying it had “bravely demonstrated to the whole world a new example of India’s counter-terrorism policy”.
His remarks came just a day before the surgical strike – “India’s major historic achievement – to complete 10 years” on 28-29. September.
From highlighting rural entrepreneurship and nutrition initiatives based in Amla in Pratapgarh, Uttar Pradesh, to talking about Census 2027 to praising Assam’s conservation and habitat restoration efforts, PM Modi spoke on a range of issues in the latest edition of Mann Ki Baat.

1. During a surgical strike: PM Modi said, “India’s major historical achievement is to complete 10 years in just a day – surgical strike. Ten years ago, on September 28-29, 2016, the Indian Army conducted a surgical strike on terrorist hideouts in PoJK.”
“The world was amazed at the manner in which our brave soldiers crossed the Line of Control (LoC) to take action against terrorism,” he added.
“The surgical strike boldly demonstrated to the whole world a new example of India’s counter-terrorism policy. It served as our decisive response to the long-term suffering India has endured due to terror attacks,” PM Modi said.

“Over the last decade – from the Balakot airstrike to ‘Operation Sindoor’ – India has repeatedly sent a clear message: if terrorists dare cast a hostile glance at India, they will face a befitting response,” he said.
2. Census 2027: PM Modi also mentioned the ongoing census in his Mann Ki Baat program and said that it is a national responsibility and every citizen has a role to play.
“A big picture of the nation is emerging now. This picture includes you, your family and even your neighbours. I am referring to the Indian census. The first phase of this exercise is almost complete in all states and union territories; data of over 32 million families has already been recorded,” he said.
Prime Minister Modi reiterated his remarks from his Independence Day speech in which he urged countrymen to take time to fill the census form correctly.
He said on Sunday, “The facility for self-registration of census details is very convenient. You can register details of yourself and your family from the mobile itself. Along with Hindi, this facility is available in 16 languages.”
“To do this, you need to visit the census online portal. The portal is se.census.gov.in… log in with your mobile number, enter your location, fill in your family details and submit the information. The whole process takes about 15 to 20 minutes. And you don’t need to upload any document for this. After submitting the information, you will receive a special ID that will be given to you by the home cenmer, when you share this information, when the enu finder visits your ID. it is verified, it will become part of the census record,” PM Modi explained.
3. ‘Purity, the most beautiful tribute to Bapu’: PM Modi on Sunday urged people to actively participate in cleanliness initiatives and said that the collective efforts of citizens can turn individual actions into larger public movements.
He described cleanliness as the “most beautiful tribute” to Mahatma Gandhi ahead of his birth anniversary on October 2.
Recalling Gandhi’s emphasis on cleanliness, PM Modi highlighted several community-led initiatives being implemented across the country.
“October 2 is just a few days away; it is the birth anniversary of Honorable Bapu. Bapu has given us many mantras for life; cleanliness is one of them,” PM Modi said.
Highlighting examples of grassroots participation, Prime Minister Modi said some young people in Madhya Pradesh are cleaning the river with the support of the wider community. In Andhra Pradesh, young people cleaned old staircases and wells and helped restore monuments.
He also cited the efforts of young volunteers in Mumbai who come together every week to clean the beaches. In Delhi, children and youth spread awareness about sorting waste and keeping their neighborhood clean, while students and locals in West Bengal cleaned up picnic spots.
“Across all these efforts one aspect is easily observed…somewhere it starts with a single individual, more people join and the movement grows – that’s what ‘Jan-Bhagidari’ is all about. Purity is indeed the most beautiful tribute we can pay to Bapu,” PM Modi said.
4. Modhera’s 1000 year journey from temple heritage to India’s first 24×7 solar village: PM Modi highlighted the 1000-year history of Gujarat’s Modhera Sun Temple and highlighted the village’s transformation into India’s first 24×7 solar village.
He said, “…Modhera today is known not only for its Sun Temple; this village in Gujarat has become the first ‘Surya Gram’ ‘Solar Village’ in the country.”
“Modhera is now running solely on solar energy, which is an example of sustainability for the nation. Several tourist attractions and amenities have also been introduced in Modhera,” he added.
PM Modi said that the Sun Temple had also witnessed many attacks, including during the Alauddin Khilji period, but noted that the historical legacy and reverence for the Sun had endured for centuries.
5. Sonai Rupai Wildlife Sanctuary in Assam: Prime Minister Modi said there was a time when elephants inhabited the area, but as human encroachment on the forest land increased, the elephants moved out.
“Three years ago this country was cleared of encroachment and the results were remarkable – the elephants are back again. Herds of elephants are being seen again in areas where they have not been active for years,” PM Modi said.

He added: “…another amazing initiative has taken place in Assam itself – this effort is to save the tiny creature, the Pygmy Hog. Once its very existence was threatened; at that time a conservation program was started with only six pigs and they were reintroduced into the wild. The pastures were also curated to feed them. Today, the Pygmy Hog population has increased thanks to this program.”
6. Amla Processing in Pratapgarh: PM Modi said that Amla is becoming a source of new possibilities in Pratapgarh, Uttar Pradesh.
“Amla has given Pratapgarh a strong identity and now this long-standing identity is bringing new opportunities for local farmers and women,” he said.
“One District One Product (ODOP) has supported local entrepreneurs involved in the Amla business there. Today, about 100 units related to Amla processing are operating in Pratapgarh, with women associated with self-help groups playing a significant role,” PM Modi said.
“One such group is from Devgarh Kamasi village; women associated with the Savitri Phule Self Help Group produce Amla sweets, preserves and juices. Access to new markets through the ODOP scheme has also led to an increase in their income,” he added.
The Prime Minister said, “Similarly, there is a ‘Vindhyavasini Self-Help Group’ in the village. The women of this group produce many things like Amla cucumber and digestive powder. These women have been given processing machines and access to credit facilities. They have also been given the opportunity to participate in local fairs and their income has increased significantly within no time.”
7. Ashok Singhal Birth Centenary: PM Modi also said, “Today we commemorate the 100th birth anniversary of Ashok Singhal Ji, who dedicated his entire life to culture, society and nation.”
Ashok Singhal was the former International Working President of the Vishwa Hindu Parishad. He was born on September 27, 1926 in Agra.

The very direction and energy he imparted to the Ram Janmabhoomi movement has indeed resulted in us witnessing the magnificent temple in Ayodhya today.
