AP truck owners are pushing for the removal of diesel restrictions

The Andhra Pradesh Truck Owners Association has urged the state government to take immediate action over restrictions imposed by oil marketing companies (OMCs) on dispensing diesel above 200 liters in a single transaction. They said the curbs are severely affecting traffic operations in Andhra Pradesh.

In a statement submitted to Commissioner of Civil Supplies K. Kanna Babu, the association said that heavy goods vehicles and commercial transporters generally have fuel tank capacity of 350 to 400 liters and therefore require full tank refueling during long distance journeys. It alleged that the OMCs, particularly IOCL, HPCL and BPCL, issued notices and blocked the sale of fuel through automation systems whenever dealers dispensed more than 200 liters of diesel in a single transaction.

According to them, the restriction causes serious difficulties for transport operators and disrupts the smooth movement of trucks. Members of the association appealed to the government to issue appropriate guidelines to oil companies to ensure uninterrupted supply of diesel to the transport sector.

Meanwhile, the Andhra Pradesh Federation of Petroleum Traders has also sought government intervention, saying oil traders have been subjected to unnecessary action for supplying diesel beyond the prescribed limit. The federation pointed out that diesel was also supplied to farmers, aquaculture operators, well operators and generator users in hospitals after obtaining proper permits from the relevant authorities.

The federation said the restrictions were adversely affecting business operations and livelihoods of genuine fuel traders and urged the Department of Civil Supplies to ensure uninterrupted supply of fuel to transport, agriculture, aquaculture and other essential service sectors.
