The trillion dollar club

US chipmaker AMD surpassed $1 trillion in market capitalization for the first time this week, joining a rare club that now has 16 members. PetroChina briefly touched the $1 trillion mark in 2007, but Apple was the first company to permanently surpass it in August 2018. Since then, tech giants like Microsoft, Alphabet, Amazon and Meta have also joined the league. The composition expanded more and more from consumer technology and software for AI-enabled hardware, with AMD joining Nvidia, TSMC and Broadcom. Apart from technology firms, only a handful of companies reached the milestone – state oil producer Saudi Aramco, pharmaceutical company Eli Lilly and Warren Buffett’s conglomerate Berkshire Hathaway.
