Tenders for Section V of Chennai Peripheral Ring Road from Singaperumal Koil to Poonjeri cancelled

The Tamil Nadu Road Development Company has canceled the tender for the construction of the Singaperumal Koil to Poonjeri (Section V) section of the Chennai Peripheral Ring Road (CPRR). It was canceled for administrative reasons.

The work for the contractor consisted of the design and construction of a section about 27 km long. This section of the 133.64 km long six-lane dual carriageway with controlled access and two-lane service lanes on both sides is being built with external financial assistance of 49,847 million Japanese yen from the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA).

The project, which aims to improve vehicular connectivity from southern parts of the state to Ennore and Kattupalli ports, will also have an Intelligent Transport System (ITS). It is being built at a total cost of ₹17,958.39 crore.

Part I of this project is implemented by TNRDC with external financial assistance of JICA amounting to 40,074 million Japanese yen.

Sections II and III are being implemented with US$478 million in external financial assistance from the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) and the OPEC Fund for International Development.

Section IV of the CPRR has already been completed. A detailed project report (DPR) is being prepared for the modernization of section IV as a controlled access road.
