20 dairy units inspected, two licenses suspended for food safety violations in Hyderabad

The Telangana Food and Essential Drugs Standards Authority (TG SAFE) suspended the FSSAI licenses of two dairy units and ordered them to stop operations immediately after inspections found numerous food safety and hygiene violations during a special enforcement drive across Hyderabad on Tuesday, September 22.

The enforcement drive was carried out by 10 teams of food safety officers and police personnel, with 20 dairy establishments inspected. The inspection found violations including a heavy infestation of houseflies, mold growth, stagnant water, rusty equipment and pipes, a poor drainage system and inadequate records regarding water quality, pest control and the health of food handlers.

TG SAFE said 18 samples were taken from the establishments for suspected adulteration. Improvement notices will be issued to 10 businesses, with units re-inspected to verify compliance with food safety standards. Further action will be taken based on the findings of the re-inspection.

Venkata Shiva Milk Point in Hayathnagar was closed for operating without FSSAI license and under unhygienic conditions. Show-cause notices will also be issued to Saritha Dairy, Sri Sai Dairy Products and Milky Plus Foods Private Ltd. (Gayathri Dairy) with proposed further procedure for imposition of sanctions.

TG SAFE also ordered suspension of FSSAI licenses of M/s Sapthagiri Foods at Sagar Road, Karmanghat and All Rich Dairy Private Limited and directed both establishments to cease business operations immediately in the interest of public health.

It said facilities that had been sent improvement notices would be re-inspected to assess whether the deficiencies identified had been rectified. The office said that further enforcement measures will be taken based on the results of repeated inspections.
