Police to deploy nearly 2,000 people for Ganesh immersion ceremony in Kurnool

Nearly 2,000 policemen will be deployed for the Ganesh immersion ceremony to be held at Vinayak Ghat in Kurnool, Handri-Neeva canal at Nannur toll plaza and Ulindakonda on September 22 (Tuesday), Superintendent of Police (SP) Vikrant Patil said.

The SP said in a press release that nearly 1,500 Ganesha idols are likely to be immersed and traffic restrictions have been imposed in Kurnool city on Tuesday. The entire immersion process will be recorded using drones, CCTV cameras and video cameras, the SP said, stressing that security measures have been implemented to ensure that the immersion is peaceful.

Mr. Vikrant Patil said that the district police have made massive, tight security arrangements for the immersion of the Ganesh idols and have deployed a total of 2,000 police personnel, including two additional SPs, 16 DSPs, 85 CIs and RIs and 150 SIs.

The SP has urged the organizers of the Ganesha idol festivities to ensure that the immersion process is carried out peacefully without causing any public inconvenience or traffic disruption. He also asked them to follow the schedules and keep the necessary vehicles and cranes ready for the idol procession.

He cautioned the organizers to ensure that small children do not ride in the floats, adding that non-swimmers, as well as children and women, should stay away from the diving ghats during the immersion. The SP asked the organizers to take necessary measures to ensure that the Ganesha idols do not come in contact with electric wires during transportation during the procession.

“Strong surveillance has been arranged to keep an eye on unruly elements. Action will be taken against youths who show excessive energy under the influence of alcohol while loud DJ music is playing,” he said.

He said extensive bomb disposal and dog unit checks would be carried out, adding that if any suspicious objects or people were seen, the public should inform their local police or call 112 or 100.

The SP also announced that traffic diversion will be in place in Kurnool town on Tuesday from 10 am until the submergence proceedings are over. Vehicles authorized by the police for emergency services such as the 108 line, firefighters, ambulances and police vehicles will be allowed to enter the immersion route.

Vehicles would not be allowed to enter the stretch from Kurnool RTC Bus Stand to Raj Vihar Centre, Government Hospital, Vinayak Ghat and Gayatri Estate. RTC buses and other vehicles traveling from Kurnool RTC Bus Stand will be routed via Bellary Chowrasta, Kallur Chennamma Circle, Gooty Petrol Station, Birla Junction, Maddur Nagar Circle and C-Camp towards Nandyal Checkpost.

Vehicles entering the city from Atmakuru, Nandyal, Nandikotkur and Nandyal Checkpost will reach Kurnool RTC Bus Stand via C-Camp, Birla Gate, Gooty’s Petrol, Kallur Chennamma Circle and Bellary Chowrasta. Vehicles coming from Hyderabad, Gadwal and Alampur will reach Kurnool RTC bus stand via Tungabhadra Bridge, Santosh Nagar and Bellary junction, while vehicles from Anantapur and Dhone will reach Kurnool RTC stand via Gooty petrol bed and Bellary junction.

After the completion of the immersion ceremony, the immersion vehicles will drive through Devanagar, Krishna Nagar and Kallur Bridge.
