Andros Townsend was run over by a pitch roller Former England international Andros Townsend had a horrific accident during the warm-up before his team PT Prachuap’s Thai League 1 match against Pattani FC, appearing to be hit and briefly run over by the pitching cylinder.Footage circulating on social media, said to be from a warm-up, shows Townsend attempting an acrobatic backheel while leaping for the ball as a ground vehicle moves towards him. The roller appears to collide with the 35-year-old before running him over as he lies on his side.The driver then appears to exit the vehicle and attempt to tip it to one side, allowing Townsend to free himself. Despite the terrifying incident, Townsend reportedly escaped with minor injuries and was able to continue his involvement in the game. He came off the bench to replace Jesper Nyholm in the 93rd minute as PT Prachuap secured a 3-0 win over Pattani.Townsend has been playing in Thailand for over a year. He initially joined Kanchanaburi Power but left the club after relegation before moving to PT Prachuap based in Prachuap Khiri Khan Province.The Thai club welcomed Townsend by referring to him as a new member of their “Killer Wasp Family”, a reference to the team’s nickname and its wasp-themed badge.The winger started his senior career in England and played for several clubs including Tottenham Hotspur, Newcastle United, Crystal Palace and Everton. He has also represented England at international level.Townsend’s last club in England was Luton Town. In 2024, he left the Championship side to join Turkish club Antalyaspor before continuing his career in Thailand.After moving to his second Thai club, Townsend described the move as a continuation of his “Thai adventure”. However, the latest chapter proved far more dramatic than expected when the former Premier League winger was involved in a freak accident on the pitch.The incident occurred before the game and despite the collision, Townsend was able to attend the game later that night.
