Asian Games: India lost to Indonesia in men’s soft tennis team quarterfinals

India’s campaign in the men’s soft tennis team event at the Asian Games came to an end on Friday after suffering a 0-2 defeat to Indonesia in the quarter-finals.

India collected several wins in the group stage, defeating Mongolia and Laos before losing to Chinese Taipei in Group C.

The Indian team was represented by Jay Meena, Aryan Thakur, Yogesh Choudhary, Aniket Patil and Om Yadav.

In the second quarter-final, India faced the Indonesian team represented by Fernando Sanger, Tio Hutauruk, Muhammad Falevi, Rizky Laluyan and Bagus Pradewa.

Jay Meena and Yogesh Choudhary opened proceedings for India in the men’s doubles against Tio Hutauruk and Fernando Sanger. The Indian pair managed to win just two games in the clash as Indonesia grabbed a 1-0 aggregate lead.

Aryan Thakur then went down to Bagus Pradewa in the men’s singles to allow Indonesia to seal the tie with a 2-0 victory.

The third match was subsequently canceled for unspecified reasons.

Soft tennis is a racquet sport that originated in Japan, the host country of the Asian Games. Players hit a soft, light rubber ball over the net and compete for points.

The size of the court is the same as in tennis, and the first player or pair to win four points takes home the pockets in the best-of-three rubber during team competitions.

The first player or pair to win five games secures the match.

The ball is softer than a tennis ball, allowing players to hit different shots by adding spin or changing speed.
