The BCCI will increase the salaries of home umpires and match umpires from the new season

MUMBAI: The upcoming domestic season is set to bring some good news for umpires in domestic cricket.The Board of Control for Cricket in India is set to increase fees for home and match umpires from the 2026-27 season, which will resume after the Duleep Trophy with the Ranji Trophy – the first domestic red-ball competition – on October 11.“We have decided to revise the pay structure of home umpires and match referees from the domestic season 2026-27. We have also decided to restructure the panel of home umpires,” BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia told TOI on Thursday.It was learned that in an “appropriate forum”, the BCCI decided to introduce a grading system for domestic umpires.“Domestic umpires will be divided into four classes – A, B, C and D. Grades A and B will be reserved for umpires working in senior domestic tournaments, while the other two classes will have umpires standing in junior tournaments,” a source following the development told this paper.Incidentally, the BCCI is scheduled to hold its annual general meeting at its headquarters here on Friday.Currently, the daily fee for the top 20 BCCI domestic umpires is Rs 40,000. For the rest of the BCCI domestic umpires, the fee is Rs 30,000. For T20 matches, the daily fee is Rs 20,000. Their daily allowance is Rs 1,500 for officiating matches outside the station and between Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 for local officials.
