78 students, two teachers: AIDSO is looking for staff for the Alatturu school

The AIDSO Mysuru district committee on Thursday submitted a memorandum to the head of the Nanjangud block education officer’s office seeking immediate appointment of a principal and an assistant teacher at Alattur Government Higher Primary School in Nanjangud taluk.

AIDSO district committee member Disha said in a press release that 78 children are studying in the school and the post of principal has remained vacant for the past two months after the death of the incumbent.

She alleged that although the government claimed to give priority to education, it has not filled the vacancy, which is affecting the functioning of the school.

Chandru, president of the Save Public Education Committee of Alatturu, said the school currently has three teachers but one of them was on medical leave for a month. If one of the remaining two teachers went on leave, one teacher would have to handle 78 students, he said.

He added that the lack of teachers adversely affects student learning. Though the matter was brought to the attention of the block education director a month ago, no action was taken, he said.

AIDSO demanded that a principal and an assistant teacher be appointed at the school without further delay. Chandru warned that a protest would be organized if the shortage was not resolved.
