The Ministry of Sports presents a task force for the revival, development of Formula 1 in India

India last hosted the F1 Grand Prix at the BIC in Greater Noida in 2013 (Image credit: X) NEW DELHI: The sports ministry has formed a task force headed by NITI Ayog’s Yugal Kishore Joshi to work on the revival and development of Formula One and motor sports in India. The task force aims to conduct a comprehensive assessment of the motor sports ecosystem in India and review the challenges, which include the tax chief.The task force aims to find the feasibility of hosting a Formula 1 race in India in 2028.Members of the task force include: Kunal, Joint Secretary, Ministry of Sports; Joint Secretary, Ministry of Commerce; Joint Secretary, Ministry of Tourism; Representatives from CBIC & CBDT, Department of Revenue; representatives of the governments of Uttar Pradesh and Maharashtra; Representatives of Buddh International Circuit (BIC) & Madras International Circuit (MIC); President/General Secretary, Federation of Motor Sports Clubs of India (FMSCI); A technical expert nominated by FMSCI and any other member co-opted by the Chairman on demand.The working group will have the following responsibilities:– To identify policy interventions for the sustainable growth of motor sports in India and prepare a holistic and coordinated plan– Conduct a detailed assessment of the Indian motoring ecosystem and review the challenges (including taxation) associated with the revival and development of motoring events– Assess the international, economic, tourism and investment benefits of hosting major motoring events in India and identify key priorities, infrastructure requirements and operational needs for sustainable development– Provide recommendations for a comprehensive policy framework for motorsport, including the potential for public-private partnership (PPP) models.India last hosted a Formula 1 Grand Prix at Buddh International Circuit in Greater Noida in 2013.
