Four Myanmar nationals detained in Bihar for lack of valid documents

Four Myanmar nationals, including a man and three girls, were detained by the RPF at Katihar railway station in Bihar for allegedly not producing valid documents, officials said on Monday (14 Sep 2026).

The four were detained on Sunday (September 13) after the arrival of the Kamakhya-Anand Vihar Superfast Express at the station.

“After the arrival of the train, the Railway Protection Team (RPF) interrogated the four persons and detained them as they could not prove themselves with valid passports, national ID cards or other legal identity documents,” RPF Inspector Vikram Kumar said.

“During interrogation, it was found that they are of Myanmar origin. The RPF then handed them over to the Government Railway Police (GRP) for further legal action and filed a written complaint in this regard,” he added.

“The GRP subsequently registered a case under Section 21 of the Immigration and Aliens Act, 2025 and Section 3 of the Passports Act, 1920,” officials said.

“The process of producing the three girls before the Child Welfare Committee (CWC) and the Juvenile Justice Board (JJB) has been initiated,” they said.

“The RPF and GRP are investigating how these four foreign nationals reached Katihar, where they were headed and whether anyone else was involved in bringing them or taking them out of the area,” Kumar said.

“Subsequently, the GRP registered a case under Section 21 of the Immigration and Aliens Act, 2025 and Section 3 of the Passports Act, 1920,” officials said.
