LIVE Updates from BRICS Summit 2026: Chinese President Xi Jinping left for Delhi to attend the BRICS 2026 summit, a day after Russian President Vladimir Putin held a bilateral meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
This year, India is hosting the BRICS Summit at the Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi on September 12-13. Conflicts in the Middle East and Ukraine, along with global trade turmoil and energy security, are expected to dominate the two-day meeting of the 11-member bloc.
On Friday, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian and Russian Putin met one-on-one with Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Putin, who last visited India in December 2025, is one of New Delhi’s most important strategic partners. Pezeshkian said pressure on Iran had “reached a critical and dangerous stage” following “military aggression by the United States and Israel.”
Indian Prime Minister likely to meet with Beijing today; however, the meeting has not been officially confirmed. Xi’s visit will also be closely watched as his first visit to neighboring India since 2019 and the biggest step yet in the cautious thaw between the nuclear-armed rivals. His arrival comes six years after his fatal encounter with Galwan in 2020.
Delhi traffic restrictions
As several world leaders continue to arrive in Delhi, traffic restrictions have been imposed in some parts of the city. The public has been advised to check and follow the rules before leaving their homes. Diversions and alternative routes have been advised for passengers to the airport and railway stations, while the Delhi Metro will remain operational throughout the day until further notice.
