ED grills IAS officer, alleged middleman in KPSC case

The Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Friday (September 11, 2026) grilled suspended IAS officer Gyanendra Kumar Gangwar and alleged middleman Basavaraj Kannale in the alleged Karnataka Public Service Commission (KPSC) recruitment scam of veterinary officers.

The duo, arrested by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), are in judicial custody and lodged in the Parappana Agrahara Central Jail. The 51st City Civil and Sessions Court, which handles ED cases, on Thursday allowed ED officials to interrogate them in jail.

A team of ED officials reached the jail on Friday morning and grilled the duo till 5 pm, sources said.

Following an FIR registered by the Vidhana Soudha police in the case, the ED raided the KPSC and the premises associated with the IAS officer who was the KPSC controller of examinations during the August 18 recruitment examinations. Subsequently, the CID, which is investigating the case, arrested Mr. Gangwar and the alleged middleman Kannale and Dayraj Basava on August 30 later

Anticipatory bail denied

Meanwhile, the 51st city civil and sessions court on Thursday rejected KPSC member Shanth Hosamani’s anticipatory bail plea in the case. The member, appointed in 2021, was named as a suspect in an FIR registered on August 7 for alleged corruption in the recruitment of posted probation officers, the results of which are still awaited.

The FIR is now being investigated by the CID. The ED has also named her as a suspect in their case over the alleged KPSC scam. Ms Hosamani is said to be on the run as these cases have been registered against her and the ED has issued a notice.

After her anticipatory bail was denied, the CID and ED are learned to have stepped up their efforts to trace her.
