Jasprit Bumrah fit but Harshit Rana ruled out of Asian Games, Afghanistan T20Is

India’s star pacer Jasprit Bumrah has been declared fit and will be available for India’s upcoming T20I series against Afghanistan and the 2026 Asian Games, while Harshit Rana has been ruled out of both assignments after suffering fresh injury setbacks.

Rana was making good progress during his rehabilitation at the BCCI Center of Excellence but suffered a rectus femoris strain while bowling in a simulated match on September 7. The fast bowler was subsequently dropped and Vidarbha pacer Yash Thakur was named as his replacement.”The men’s selection committee has named Yash Thakur as a replacement for Harshit Rana in India’s squads for the three-match T20I series against Afghanistan and the 2026 Asian Games,” the BCCI said in a statement.

Yash Thakur, 27, is a fast bowler from Vidarbha who made his T20I debut during India’s tour of Zimbabwe in July. He played two matches and scored four goals. Thakur also took 81 wickets in 50 Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy matches at an economy rate of 7.04.

Bumrah’s inclusion is a big boost for India ahead of the Afghanistan T20I and the Asian Games. He will be part of the pace attack with Arshdeep Singh and Thakur while Shreyas Iyer will lead the side in both duties with Tilak Varma serving as vice-captain.
