Watch: Magnus Carlsen trades chess pieces for a day of golf during GCL run

Magnus Carlsen may be the king on the chessboard, but the Norwegian has shown that he can handle himself well on the golf course. Carlsen was part of a golf outing in Bengaluru in the middle Global Chess League event on September 9.

If the pictures and video from the event are anything to go by, the world number one showed her laser-sharp focus during the outing, shooting with perfection and ease.

Apart from Carlsen, Divya Deshmukh and Adhiban Baskaran were also in action during the golf outing.

CARLSEN’S LOVE OF GOLF

Carlsen has talked about his love for golf because he plays the sport as a hobby to calm himself down when he is away from chess. During the interview, Carlsen even suggested that he would choose to be world champion in golf rather than chess.

He also said that the advantage of golf is that you can devote yourself to the sport for a long time.

“The thing about golf is you can play until you’re old,” Carlsen said in 2023.

CARLSEN SHOWS THE CLASS BACK ON THE CHESS BOARD

Carlsen played a big part in helping the Alpine APL Pipers complete a double with close rivals CheQ Mumba Masters to take first place overall.

The Pipers beat the Mumba Masters 11-6 and Carlsen played a solid game to beat Maxime Vachier-Lagrave in 31 moves.

Carlsen is back in the GCL after missing last season and will be hoping to propel the Pipers to the title.
