The Fort Police have arrested one person accused of attempting to murder an Assistant Jail Officer of Poojappura Central Jail.

Accused Ashish, a habitual offender, assaulted Jail Officer Prajith at Chala Market in Thiruvananthapuram on 18 July 2026 due to prior enmity. The accused had earlier been lodged in a prison during which the warden of the prison reported his alleged anti-social activities to the senior warden of the prison. Police suspect that the attack is related to this incident.

While the accused absconded after the Chala incident, investigation into his mobile phone and other details revealed that he had traveled first to Madurai, then to Bengaluru and subsequently to Hyderabad.

The police received confidential information that the accused had returned home on Sunday. He was subsequently arrested by the Fort police team from his house.

Pending criminal cases

Among the pending criminal cases against him, the accused was earlier detained for allegedly assaulting a doctor at the General Hospital, assaulting a judicial officer at the Vanchiyoor District Court, threatening the director of the State Bank of India at Manacaud and making a fake bomb threat at a mosque in Manacaud.

He was remanded in judicial custody.
