The Bengaluru City Police has launched ‘Project Khushi’, a structured health and wellness program aimed at promoting the long-term physical and mental well-being of police personnel, Home Minister Priyank Kharge said on Tuesday.

The program will initially be implemented in the Electronics City Police Division, which will cover around 600 police officers. Each batch will go through a three-month program including health check-ups, expert-led counseling and digital engagement activities.

The initiative will focus on preventive care, nutrition, physical activity, quality sleep and stress management, among other lifestyle factors that are key to the long-term well-being of police officers.

The pilot program is showing encouraging results

According to the Home Secretary, an earlier pilot program conducted under Project Khushi had yielded encouraging results. Approximately 61% of participants experienced a reduction in blood sugar levels, while 70% corrected vitamin B12 deficiencies. Additionally, 59% of participants reduced their body weight.

Mr Kharge said the results show that sustained and scientifically designed health interventions can have a positive impact on the well-being of police personnel.

Partnerships with healthcare and business organizations

“Our police officers work in challenging and stressful conditions every day to keep our communities safe. Constant attention to their health is essential. A healthy police force is the backbone of an effective and resilient police system,” said Mr Kharge.

He added that mental well-being, healthy lifestyle and stress management should be given equal importance as physical health.
