Deprived of time for the raise, Mishra was forced to reset and retry the raise with just one second left, causing him to go limp immediately.“I had two or three seconds after I played rook takes f1, g takes f1, promotion to queen,” Mishra told reporters after the match. “When I raised, I took the queen and put the queen on the square, but the rook was still in the area. The move wasn’t quite finished. I had to try again with one second left and a flag.”A dramatic error reversed what would have been a game-clinching, game-clinching victory for his team.“I saw the whole line… I won the queen,” added a gutted Mishra. “If I had won this game, we would have won the match. What can I say?”Even Mendonca acknowledged the bitter nature of the matter. “He (Leon) was apologetic,” Mishra said of his opponent. “Nobody wants to win a game like that.Levon Aronian of Ganga weighed in on the chaotic post-match sequence, adding: “The confusion was that his opponent made an illegal move and hit the clock… so they had to take those two seconds off him. He tried to raise a queen within one second and failed. He lost in time.”
