19 of the richest immigrant billionaires in the US were born in India, the most of any country | Today’s news
There are a total of 144 billionaires in the US who were born in another country but became rich as immigrants, according to the latest Forbes report. According to Forbes magazine’s list of America’s Richest Immigrants 2026, these billionaires come from 45 countries and have a total of $2.2 trillion. That’s up from $1.3 trillion in 2025, when the number of foreign-born billionaires was 125.
According to Forbes, India had the most foreign-born billionaires in the US in 2026, with a total of 19. Also in 2025, India was the birthplace of the most immigrant billionaires in the US – 12.
Indian-born venture capitalist Hemant Taneja, Astera Labs semiconductor co-founders Sanjay Gajendra and Jitendra Mohan and Palantir chief technology officer Shyam Sankar are among the newcomers to the 2026 list of America’s richest immigrants.
“I graduated in India and I came here to do my master’s, and my plan was actually to come to the US, get my degree, maybe do a job for five years and then come back,” Astera Labs’ Mohan told Forbes. “And everything went according to plan, except for the last bit. So now I’ve been here 32 years.”
“It was a trip to the US with big dreams. For me, it was always about starting my own company,” said another co-founder of Astera Labs, Gajendra.
“America still provides a lot of opportunities, it’s one of the most dynamic markets and innovative places,” said Amjad Masad, Jordanian-born co-founder of vibration coding startup Replit.
Forbes’ 2026 list of America’s richest immigrants
Israel and Taiwan tied for second place for the country of birth of the most immigrant billionaires in the US, with 11 ultra-wealthy individuals each.
It is followed by China (9), Canada (8), Iran (7), Germany (6), France (5) and the United Kingdom (5) in the top ten list of America’s richest immigrants 2026.
Interestingly, although there are 19 immigrant billionaires born in India, none of them are in the top ten. According to Forbes, the top ten immigrant billionaires in the US in 2026 are Elon Musk, Google co-founder Sergey Brin, Nvidia co-founder Jensen Huang, Thomas Peterffy, Miriam Adelson and her family, David Sun, John Tu, Peter Thiel, Rupert Murdoch and family, and Adam Foroughi.

According to Forbes, the top three: Musk, Brin and Huang together account for more than 60% of the total wealth of immigrant billionaires.
