India-France relations reach new heights: PM Modi

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday (September 6, 2026) said India-France relations have reached new heights and this strategic partnership is particularly special as it rests on the firm foundations of long-standing cultural and political ties.
Speaking virtually to inaugurate the Swaminarayan temple in Paris, PM Modi hoped that the great temple in Paris would stand for centuries as a symbol of cooperation and opportunity between the two nations.
“In recent years, relations between India and France have reached new heights. Together with my friend, President (Emmanuel) Macron, the two nations are building a special global strategic partnership,” he said.
The Prime Minister said that from technology, artificial intelligence and defense to space and climate action, India and France are moving forward together with new impetus and energy.
“We are also celebrating 2026 as the Indo-French Year of Innovation. This strategic partnership is particularly special as it rests on the strong foundations of our long-standing cultural and political ties,” he said.
PM Modi said that history shows that the sacrifice of Indian soldiers in France remains alive in people’s hearts even today.
“Language enthusiasts also know the key role French scholars played in popularizing Sanskrit. Romain Rolland’s writings on Ramakrishna Paramahamsa and Swami Vivekananda brought our societies closer together,” he said.
Besides, the Prime Minister said, the spiritual journey of the “Mother” from Paris to the Sri Aurobindo Ashram in Puducherry inspired countless Indian and French seekers. Decades ago, he said, Srila Prabhupada Swami also visited France and opened a new chapter of spiritual connections through ISKCON.
“Today, yoga has also become a bridge for human connection between our nations. The images from the Eiffel Tower on International Yoga Day reflect the immense popularity of yoga in France,” he said.
