Chepauk had nearly 10,000 cricket enthusiasts at the stadium on Day 1 who roared loudly from the very start of the match. Most of the noise was reserved for youngster Vaibhav Sooryavanshi who dazzled the crowd with a fantastic display of red-ball batting.
At the start of the innings alongside Abhimanyu Easwaran, Vaibhav added 100 runs for the first wicket before being dismissed off a short ball by CV Milind. South zone spectators didn’t like that their favorite player was dismissed during the first part of Day 1, but they were relieved that South zone at least saved some of the morning part.
East Zone dominated the game throughout the day with Abhimanyu Easwaran and Shikhar Mohan reaching fifties while Ishan Kishan scored a sensational hundred.
At the end of the day, Vaibhav Sooryavanshi and a few other East Zone players went to the crowd and signed some memorabilia, making the day at the iconic stadium an unforgettable experience.
On Day 2 of the Duleep Trophy final, a good chunk of the crowd also arrived and were greeted by a sensational batting performance from Ishan Kishan. Kishan scored 250 runs before retiring due to cramps and helped East Zone pass 600 runs in the first innings.
South Zone have been trailing in all sessions since the start of Day 1 and have a lot to do to get out of trouble.
