A 26-year-old woman and her lover were arrested by the Alangayam police near Vaniyambadi town for killing her two children fearing that the boys might be a hindrance to their illicit relationship.
The arrested person has been identified as S. Sivagami, 26, a resident of Velichanur village in Jawadhu Hills, Tiruvannamalai. She was married to B. Saito, 31. The couple had two children. Police said Sait was arrested a few years ago on charges of illegal felling of red sanders in Andhra Pradesh. He is currently housed in a local prison. Sivagami befriended S. Raja (34), a taxi driver, in the hills.
Police said that on August 27, Sivagami took her two children, S. Prem Kumar, 5, and S. Pratap, 2, by bus to Alangayam town and walked to a nearby farm. Police said that when the boys were eagerly watching the water level in the farm well, Sivagami allegedly pushed them into the well and left the spot.
Police said the boys drowned before the landowner G. Prakasam came to the farm well. After being informed, Alangayam police collected the bodies and a case was registered.
Sivagami, who confessed to the crime, was lodged in a sub-jail in Tirupattur town. Another probe is underway.
