General Education Minister N. Samsudheen on Sunday said the Kerala government would take a decision on the introduction of the PM-SHRI scheme only after receiving the report of a special cabinet sub-committee examining the matter.

The previous LDF government had signed an agreement with the Center to implement the Prime Minister’s Schools for the Rise of India program in the state. However, the implementation was later suspended after opposition from within the ruling front.

After coming to power, the UDF government, which opposed the scheme, appointed a special cabinet sub-committee to look into the matter.

Responding to questions from reporters, Mr. Samsudheen said there were differences between the Center and the state in the implementation of the scheme. “The previous government signed it and gave an assurance to the Center that we will implement it. That is the background before us. So we are considering what should be done in such a situation,” he said.

The Minister stated that it is not urgent to take a decision on this matter. “There is no emergency in this matter. A decision will be taken later,” he said.
