Efforts to capture the second tiger in Gudalur forest division

The forest department on Saturday confirmed that it has expanded operations to capture a second tiger in the Gudalur forest division.

The statement said, “In order to capture the tiger sighted in Nambalakkottai and Vimalagiri areas of Gudalur forest division, two traps and 25 camera traps have been installed as per the instructions of the Principal Chief Conservator of Forests and Chief Conservator of Forests.

A special team consisting of forest personnel has been formed to track and trace the animal. The department confirmed that the tiger being sought in Vimalagiri is different from the one that killed two people in O’Valley in August.

A frequent observation

They said the Vimalagiri tiger has been frequently spotted near human settlements over the past two weeks, raising concerns about human-animal interactions in the region, prompting the decision to capture the animal. Meanwhile, efforts to capture the tiger in O’Valley continued on the 16th.
