AI University Consultative Panel holds first meeting, discusses phased establishment

The first meeting of the Karnataka Artificial Intelligence University (KAIU) Consultative Committee was held in Bengaluru on Saturday (September 5), bringing together leaders from the tech industry, academia and the Karnataka government to discuss the plan.

A committee chaired by Kris Gopalakrishnan, co-founder of Infosys and chairman of Axilor Ventures, and co-chaired by N. Manjula, secretary, Department of Electronics, IT, Biotechnology and Science and Technology, has been constituted to prepare a plan for the phased establishment and commissioning of the proposed university, the release said.

“The meeting focused on bringing together industry and academic institutions to take the AI ​​University initiative forward and identify programs that can be started immediately to develop AI skills in Karnataka,” the report said.

Among the key points discussed were the initiation of certificate, diploma, school leaving, management education and retraining programs through industry and academic partnerships, even before the establishment of a full-fledged university.

Speaking after the meeting, Mr Gopalakrishnan said: “Our immediate task is to map the training programs and expertise already available in industry, the infrastructure available across academic institutions and programs already being developed, and bring these capabilities together to create meaningful qualification opportunities. At the same time, we will work on mechanisms for industry and academia to contribute faculty, expertise and resources. The goal and long-term job creation, even AI, is now institution.”
