US-Iran War LIVE: Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) air force claimed on Saturday to have fired several ballistic missiles at a US aircraft carrier and destroyer, saying the two warships were harassing Iranian ships and participating in a naval blockade. State broadcaster IRIB quoted an IRGC statement as saying that two US Navy vessels were attacked during ongoing hostilities against Iranian shipping. The statement reads: “The Air Force of the Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps launched multiple ballistic missile attacks on a US Navy aircraft carrier and destroyer, killing children who harassed Iranian ships and participated in the naval blockade.”
Iran targets oil tankers and vessels on ‘unauthorized’ routes in Strait of Hormuz
IRGC naval forces said on Saturday (local time) that they had attacked three oil tankers sailing through an “unauthorized route” through the Strait of Hormuz and three vessels linked to the United States in the region, after Washington forces had earlier targeted three Iranian oil tankers. Following the US strikes, the IRGC Navy said in a statement issued by IRIB that the US military attacked three Iranian oil tankers causing damage, describing the action as an attempt to close the Strait of Hormuz. The IRGC Navy said: “This morning, the US terrorist and aggressive military, in a brutal act and out of desperation to close the Strait of Hormuz, attacked three oil tankers belonging to the Islamic Republic of Iran and caused damage.
Iran criticizes US attacks on Iranian oil tankers
As tensions between the US and Iran escalate, Tehran on Saturday condemned US attacks on Iranian merchant vessels in the Persian Gulf and the Sea of Oman, calling the attacks a violation of the UN Charter and saying they “constitute a war crime”. The Islamic Republic’s Foreign Ministry said in a statement that it “strongly condemns the adventurous actions of the US in attacking Iranian merchant vessels in the Persian Gulf and the Sea of Oman” and called the attacks a continuation of what it described as US military aggression against Iran.
Iran’s military vows “tougher” retaliation if US attacks continue
Iran’s military on Saturday vowed “tougher” retaliatory strikes against US naval vessels if Washington continued to strike Iranian ships, hours after the US Central Command said it had destroyed three Iranian tankers. Khatam al-Anbiya Central Command said: “The US terrorist army is warned that if the evil actions, insecurity and harassment of Iranian ships and the naval blockade of Iran continue, the strikes by the Islamic Republic of Iran Armed Forces against US military vessels in the region will be more serious than before and there is a possibility of their expansion.”
