For Siraj, the homework comes at a time when questions about his form, wicket impact and workload have begun to mount.TOI understands that Siraj’s place came under scrutiny after the first Test against Sri Lanka in Galle, with the team management considering Gurnoor Brar for the second Test in Colombo. Siraj eventually retained his place but managed only two wickets in the 26 overs he bowled in the draw.Former national coach and Indian opener Devang Gandhi said this is where Siraj should apply his experience.“I’ve seen Mohammed Shami at close quarters. In the second session, his pace usually dropped, but it was often deliberate. He used to soften the batter and then suddenly bowl that killer shot. So when you get a bit older, it’s not always about going straight, but being judicious about it,” Gandhi said, adding that Siraj has everything in his armory that should help him.“His biggest strength is his ability to bowl a swinging seam. When a player does that, the ball tends to seam depending on which side of the seam it lands on. That’s something he should never lose,” Gandhi added.
