BCCI bans Rohit Yadav for two years for age fraud as CAB takes action against 62 cricketers

The BCCI has handed a two-year ban to Bengal pacer Rohit Yadav for allegedly misrepresenting his age weeks after he was selected in India’s under-19 squad for the upcoming series against Australia.

Originally from Uttar Pradesh, Rohit represented India during the Under-19 team’s tour of Sri Lanka in July, taking six wickets to help the side win the final Test.

“He is banned for two years,” a BCCI source said. He was also part of India U-19’s domestic one-day and multi-day matches against Australia U-19 in Rajkot and Ahmedabad later this month.

The age discrepancy came to light when they checked his documents in Sri Lanka. Rohit has three birth certificates with different birth years – 2007, 2009 and 2010 – making him ineligible to play age-group cricket.

There were also discrepancies in his Aadhaar records. When he was registered with the Cricket Association of Bengal, his year of birth was recorded as 2007. His Aadhaar records were subsequently updated in 2017 and 2020 to show 2006, before being changed to 2009 in 2021.

The CAB had earlier kept Rohit out of its junior teams due to irregularities and subsequently informed the BCCI.

The board has now banned him from domestic cricket for two years and informed all associated state associations.

CAB CACKDOWN FOR 62 PLAYERS

Rohit is among 62 players declared ineligible for registration or transfer by the CAB for any tournament during the 2026–27 and 2027–28 seasons due to documentation and age-related irregularities.

The list also includes former India Under-19 World Cup winner Ravi Kumar and left-arm all-rounder Vishal Bhatti, who has three first-class matches and two List A appearances under his belt.

Ravi, a key member of India’s 2022 Under-19 World Cup-winning team, has been tagged with a 45-month age gap in CAB records.

The CAB also found significant discrepancies involving several other age-group players, with some records showing differences of several years.

The action is part of a wider review of the association’s player documentation and age records, which have been uploaded to its website.
