Merit-based MBBS admissions sought for reserved category students

Alleging that deserving reserved category candidates were denied their rightful seats under the open competition (OC) quota, the Liberation Congress Party (LCP) on Thursday demanded that the Andhra Pradesh government immediately stop the ongoing MBBS counseling process, withdraw or amend GO No. 102 and restart admissions under GO No. 151.

Speaking to the media at a program organized by the Andhra Pradesh Medicos Parents Association in Vijayawada, LCP National President Vijay Kumar G. Srkr told the media that the party had warned the government months ago that GO No. 102 would lead to injustice for SC, ST and OBC students and that the first round of Dr. NTR University of Health Sciences 2026 is about MBBS Counselling.

Mr. Vijay Kumar said that 43 reserved category candidates in AU region who secured ranks better than OC cutoff rank of 71,547 were allotted seats in respective reserved categories instead of being considered under OC quota. Similarly, 27 reserved category candidates in the SVU region who scored better than the OC cut-off rank of 94,966 are said to have landed in the same situation.

He said their main demands include immediate steps to stop further rounds of MBBS counseling under GO No. 102; revocation or modification of the order to restore OV privileges to deserving reserved category candidates; annulment of the admission, which was allegedly carried out in violation of the applicable rules, and conducting a new counseling under NV No. 151; issuance of written response to Medicos Parents Association and representation of LCP and public notice of remedial action to affected students.

The LCP has urged Health Minister Satya Kumar Yadav to clarify what remedial measures his department will take to protect the interests of the affected SC, ST and OBC candidates.
