Education reforms must reflect the changing needs of society, says AU Vice-Chancellor

Education reforms should draw strength from philosophical thinking while responding to the changing needs of society, said Andhra University Vice-Chancellor GP Raja Sekhar at the Teachers’ Day 2026 celebrations organized by SRM University-AP.

Prof. Raja Sekhar referred to the concept of ‘Abheda’ by Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan and explored its relevance to contemporary education. He drew parallels between Radhakrishnan’s philosophical outlook and the National Education Policy (NEP), particularly in the context of the National Credit Framework.

Prof. Emphasizing that teamwork, adaptability and innovation are essential qualities for those who assume leadership responsibilities, Raja Sekhar emphasized the need for educators to evolve with the changing academic and social environment.

SRM University-AP Vice Chancellor CH Satish Kumar commemorated the life and legacy of Dr. Radhakrishnan and spoke of the teachers’ profound influence on his intellectual and personal development. Prof. Satish Kumar who followed the journey of Dr. From his formative years as a student, Radhakrishnan emphasized how the leadership of teachers at various stages shaped his outlook and abiding respect for the teaching profession.

Prof. Raja Sekhar presented the University Outstanding Faculty Awards 2026 to nine faculty members for their contribution to teaching, research and institutional development. The awardees were Dr. VM Manikandan, Dr. Ayesha Parveen Haroon, Dr. Dr. Manjesh Kumar Elachiah E, Dr. Priyanka, Dr. Siddhartha Ghosh, Dr. Debajyoti Kundu, Dr. Anuj Deshpande and Dr. Ramanjaneya Reddy.

Dr Manikandan was recognized for his work in artificial intelligence, machine learning and student mentoring, while other awards were given for contributions spanning psychology, advanced and sustainable manufacturing, network security, computer vision, teaching and research, environmental science, institutional development, power electronics and renewable energy.

Foundation prof. VS Rao–Prof. The HP Tiwari Best Faculty Award 2026 was awarded to Dr. Manikandan, while Five-Year Service Awards were also given to 18 faculty members, apart from the Popular Faculty Award.
