Happy Janmashtami 2026: The auspicious Hindu festival of Krishna Janmashtami, also called Gokulashtami, celebrating the 5253rd birthday of Lord Krishna, has finally arrived. Dedicated to Lord Krishna, the eighth incarnation of Lord Vishnu, it is celebrated on 4th September this year as the ashtami tithi of Krishna Paksha in the month of Bhadrapada mostly falls on a Friday.

The day has been declared a public holiday, which means that all educational institutions, banks and government offices will remain closed today. On this occasion, devotees of Lord Krishna all over the world participate in ‘Dahi Handi’ celebrations, observe fast, sing devotional songs and participate in midnight festivities and rituals in temples.

According to the Drika Panchang, the Dahi Handi ceremony will be held on September 5, while the parana time will begin at 0:43 AM on Saturday. Meanwhile, Nishita Puja time will be extended to 45 minutes.
