SSUS Unsigned Exam Table Registers: UDF Nominees in Syndicate Now Seek Partial Adjustments in Last Order

The United Democratic Front (UDF) nominees in the reconstituted Sree Sankaracharya University of Sanskrit (SSUS) Syndicate in Kerala have sought a change in the decision taken at the special meeting of the Syndicate held on 22

In a communication sent by Vice-Chancellor Cize Thomas, they pointed out that a blanket reversal of the decision taken at the Syndicate meeting held on 17 July 2026 to allow officials to record their signatures was not practical.

The communication was sent after the university authorities issued an order confirming the unanimous decision taken at the special meeting of the syndicate on August 22 to revoke the July 17 decision. A decision was also taken to conduct an inquiry by a sub-committee of the Syndicate into the alleged irregularities found in the preparation of tabular registers. Members affiliated to the UDF were among those who attended the special meeting of the Syndicate on 22 August.

Searching for a probe

KB Sabu, a member of the Syndicate, said blanket cancellation did not seem “impractical” as it would further delay the issuance of diplomas to students. He said an investigation must be launched into allegations of irregularities in tabular register documentation for exams held years ago. However, there are genuine cases where the process of recording the signatures of officials who have not previously signed should be allowed, he said.

Senior university officials pointed out that in the Syndicate meeting held on August 22, the errors found in the table registers were discussed in detail and the decision to set aside the July 17 decision was taken unanimously. It has also been decided to investigate the alleged irregularities, they said.

A preliminary assessment by the authorities found that the officials had not recorded their signatures in the examinations held since 2018. Among those who entered their signatures in the tabular register after the Syndicate’s July 17 decision were those who had retired from the service.

The matter was included as item No. 31 in the minutes of the Syndicate meeting. It noted that the Syndicate has decided to depute the Section Clerks of the three Sections in the Probation Wing to inform the officers in the Assistant Under Secretary category who have not signed the tabular registers to record the same.

An initial assessment found that the erring officials were asked to enter their signatures in the record registers even before the issuance of the official order confirming the July 17 decision of the Syndicate.
