Nadda welcomes the CJP’s decision to call off the September 5 protest

Union Health Minister JP Nadda on Tuesday (September 1, 2026) welcomed the Janta Cockroach Party’s (CJP) decision to call off the protest it had planned for September 5.

The minister’s statement came after CJP co-convener Saurav Das informed the Supreme Court that he had decided to withdraw the call for the September 5 march in view of the government’s positive assurance.

The court quashed all First Information Reports (FIRs) registered against students who participated in the CJP-led protests between July 20 and 25, following the leak of the NEET-UG paper. However, it allowed the Delhi Police to register fresh FIRs against 2,873 individuals with serious criminal records who were present at the Jantar Mantar protest.

The development comes ahead of the 18th BRICS summit, which India will host on September 12-13 at the Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi.

Along with his counterpart, Union Minister Jitendra Singh, he held discussions with student representatives regarding the Jantar Mantar protests on July 25, Mr. Nadda said. “Considering the future of the students, we have given an assurance on behalf of the Government of India that the cases registered against the protesting students will be withdrawn and no harsh action will be taken against them in future,” he said.

“We have also consulted the BJP-ruled state governments in this regard. Proceedings are underway to fulfill this assurance,” Mr. Nadda said, adding that the welfare and progress of the youth is the top priority of the government.
