Sanjay Singh to be expelled from party if allegations found true: Chirag Paswan

Lok Janshakti Party-Ram Vilas (LJP-RV) National President and Union Food Industry Minister Chirag Paswan on Monday (August 31, 2026) reacted to allegations against his party’s MLAs by Mahua and Bihar Public Health Department Minister Sanjay Kumar Singh. Mr Paswan’s statement came a day after Janshakti Janata Dal (JJD) leader Tej Pratap Yadav demanded an inquiry into the allegations against the minister.

If the allegations against Mr. Singh were found to be true, Mr. Paswan said he would expel Mr. Singh from the LJP(RV) and “strictest action” would be taken against him. The allegations are “very serious” and the party has demanded an explanation from Mr Singh, Mr Paswan said.

Mr Tej Pratap Yadav, the estranged elder son of Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) supremo Lalu Prasad, had earlier posted about an incident allegedly involving Mr Singh on the social media platform X. Questions were raised about the behavior of Mr Singh, who allegedly misbehaved with a young woman and allegedly tried to abuse her for ₹25 lakh at a hotel in Delhi, Mr Tej Pratap Yadav said.

Mr. Paswan addressed the media at his residence in Patna. “The way one leader of another political party leveled allegations against my MLA who is also a minister in the Bihar government is really serious. The allegations are very serious and I will never protect such people even though he (Mr Singh) is a member of my family. The party has sought an explanation from him,” Mr Paswan said.

“I will ask the woman to produce evidence and also the management of the hotel where the alleged incident took place. I demand that the Bihar government also conduct an inquiry and whoever is guilty, even people from my party and my family, take strict action against the person responsible. The image of Bihar is tarnished. If my people are found guilty, he (Mr Singh) said that LPRV will be expelled from the party.

Mr. Singh, through his advocate Sushil Kumar, has sent a legal notice to Mr. Tej Pratap Yadav demanding an unconditional apology and compensation of ₹50 million for the false and defamatory allegations made against him on social media and seeking a response within seven days.

The notification states that Mr. Tej Pratap Yadav has not disclosed the identity of any complainant, victim, witness, hotel, date, complaint, first information report or any other material. “The entire narrative is a fabrication disguised as ‘issues raised’ and the demand for an investigation is merely a device to lend the color of legitimacy to a calculated character assassination,” the 11-page notice said.

“(In) your failure to comply within 7 days of receipt of this notice, my client will be compelled to initiate appropriate criminal proceedings for defamation and other related offenses under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita Act, 2023 and the Information Technology Act, 2000,” he added.

“I am not interested in Sanjay Singh’s legal notice,” Tej Pratap Yadav told reporters at the Patna airport on Monday (August 31, 2026).

Meanwhile, the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) government has pledged to allay “upper caste fears”, Mr Paswan said, by ensuring that protecting the interests of the deprived classes does not lead to “exploitation of other social groups”, Mr Paswan said.

“While protecting the interests of one caste, the interests of other sections of the society can also be protected. Wherever I protect the rights and interests of scheduled castes and tribes, I will also strongly raise the voice of the general category people and the upper castes there,” the Union minister said.
