Cheyutha pension application deadline extended to September 15, applications exceed 4.8 lakh

The state government has extended the deadline for applications under the Cheyutha Social Security Scheme by 15 days, allowing eligible beneficiaries to apply until September 15.

The decision was taken on the instructions of the Panchayat Raj and Rural Development Minister Danasari Anasuya Seethakka on the basis of representations from Persons with Disabilities (PwD) and reports that many eligible applicants, especially in Hyderabad, were unable to complete the process due to the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls.

The Society for Eradication of Rural Poverty (SERP), on the direction of the Minister, issued orders to extend the application deadline to ensure that no eligible beneficiary is left out of the scheme.

The extension comes at a time of strong response to the pension scheme. A total of 4,81,662 applications have been received across the state as of August 31, according to Cheyutha’s new applications report.

Of the total number of applications, 2,89,342 were filed by widows, which accounted for the largest share, followed by 1,11,652 applications from persons with disabilities. Entries from unmarried women totaled 38,452, with 12,750 received from weavers and 30,416 from toddy tappers.

She said the government considered the request to extend the deadline on humanitarian grounds after people with disabilities raised the challenges they faced in applying. The minister called on all eligible persons who have not yet applied to take advantage of the extended period and complete the process by September 15.
