Karnataka hikes minimum wages by 60%: Check the revised boards in Bengaluru and other parts of the state | Today’s news

The Karnataka government has increased the minimum wages by 60%, according to a state government notification. Labor Minister Santosh Lad on Saturday described the move as “meeting a long-pending demand of the labor community across Karnataka”.

This is what the adjusted salary looks like in the state:

  • The workers in Bengaluru are paid the minimum 23,376 per month
  • Skilled workers would be eligible 31,114 per month in the national capital.
  • The revised rates in other parts of Karnataka would be between 19,300 a 21,251 per month.

The minister said the revised wage notification aims to enhance economic security for workers in the unorganized sector and employees in specified industries in the state while bringing thousands of workers under the common framework for the first time.

“Our government has issued a notification to increase the minimum wages of workers by 60 percent. With this, our government has fulfilled the long-pending demand of the labor community in the state,” Lad said in a post on ‘X’.

He said the wage revision was carried out in accordance with the directions issued by the Supreme Court and marked a significant structural reform in the state labor framework.

“This notification will provide economic security to the workers in the unorganized sector and other specified sectors across the state. While fixing the minimum wages, the Supreme Court guidelines have been followed while carrying out this revision,” he said.

The minister said the government has also replaced the earlier four-zone classification system with a single notification covering all scheduled jobs.

“Additionally, instead of earlier inclusion in four zones, all planned jobs are for the first time covered under a single notification,” he said.

According to Lad, the revised wage structure would directly benefit lakhs of workers employed in 81 scheduled occupations across Karnataka.

The minister thanked Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, his deputy DK Shivakumar, cabinet colleagues and experts for supporting the decision of the Labor Department.
