The Maharashtra government is in contact with 338 of the 404 people stranded in Nepal following flash floods and mudslides, the government said on Saturday (29 Aug 2026).

Of these, 41 returned from Saga on Saturday (August 29) evening, while 106 tourists will reach Nagpur at 4.30 am on Sunday (August 30). 45 tourists traveling with an Ahilyanagar-based travel agency also entered India. “About 143 citizens are on their way to successfully return to the state,” the Maharashtra government said in a statement issued on Saturday evening. A total of 69 tourists are expected to land in Mumbai till August 31.

“We are in contact with several individuals from the groups of stranded tourists. Personal contact has not been possible so far. We are collecting a list of individuals,” an official told The Hindu on Saturday (August 29) evening.

“Government agencies at various levels are working round the clock to help the citizens of Maharashtra and the tourists who have embarked on religious tourism,” the official said.

The government has launched helplines for people stranded in Nepal. Tourists from Nagpur started their journey from Bihar to Nagpur. A group of 45 tourists traveling with an agency based in Ahilyanagar was in Chitwan during the floods. “As the route to Kathmandu is closed today, they are being brought via Lumbini in Nepal and after reaching Ayodhya today, further planning will be done as directed by the government,” the official said.

The government is trying to establish contact with eight persons from Mumbai who have not yet been traced. “Information has been given about eight tourists from Borivali and Andheri. They are stranded in Nepal due to the disaster. From this, efforts are being made to get more information from Lakshminarayan Acharya of Andheri, but as he and others in the group cannot be contacted on mobile, there is difficulty at present. Efforts are on to get in touch with them,” a government relative of the tourists said.

“The Ministry of External Affairs has sent to the states a list of 149 Indian tourists who have safely entered Nepal from China by the end of August 28. Arrangements are being made to reach them safely in their districts. The concerned citizens of Maharashtra districts have been instructed to verify and collect their information and names. These tourists will soon return to India.
