A truck engine derails near Arakkonam railway station

The engine of a freight train coming from Chennai port derailed inside the track at Melpakkam village near Arakkonam railway station in Ranipet on Saturday.

Railway officials said the 38-car freight train was heading to a district in Bengaluru with a consignment of consumer cars. The engine wheels came off the track, derailing the train and damaging the tracks.

A team of senior officials and an engineering crew reached the spot. Restoration work is in progress. Railway officials said that despite the train derailment, train services between Arakkonam and Katpadi were not affected.
