Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) Supreme Leader Representative in the Assembly T. Harish Rao alleged that the Congress government had not spared even the differently-abled from its betrayal as it failed to keep any of the election promises made to them.

Along with P. Sabita Indra Reddy, T. Srinivas Yadav, D. Sudheer Reddy, Manchireddy Kishan Reddy, K. Vasudeva Reddy, G. Devi Prasad and Errolla Srinivas, he participated in the ‘Samara Shankharavam’ of the differently abled on Saturday.

Mr. Harish Rao said that the Congress government has not shown any basic concern for the differently abled. “During the BRS regime, the social security pension was increased from ₹500 to ₹4,016 and they were treated with dignity and not just as vote banks.

He explained that the previous BRS government had spent around ₹54,000 crore on Aasara pensions during its nearly 10-year tenure. Of this, about ₹10,300 crore was spent specifically for the differently-abled. He said the pensions were paid regularly every month and recalled that the KCR government had also provided 5% reservation in two-bedroom houses and 4% reservation in education and employment for them.

Telangana received the National Award for effective implementation of the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act in 2015, which shows its commitment to the welfare of the differently-abled, the BRS leader said. In contrast, the Congress government did nothing for them.

He sought to know the status of pension of ₹6,000 per month, free RTC bus travel facility and occupation of backlog of seats reserved for them among others that were promised to them before the assembly elections in 2023. They were also not paid their pension every month. He said there were about 5.11 lakh people with various disabilities in the state.

He pointed out that the charges for the promised enhanced monthly pension for the last 33 months now stood at ₹ 66,000 per person. The government has not increased their pension even a little, though it has earned ₹ 30,000 crore from the sale of land alone.
