The Kerala Women’s Commission is asking the police to take swift action against abuse of women on social media

Kerala Women’s Commission Chairperson P. Satheedevi directed the police to take strict action against online abuse against women and to register cases immediately based on complaints received.

Speaking at a district-level adalat organized by the committee at Thrissur Town Hall on Tuesday (July 28, 2026), Ms. Satheedevi said the police cyber cell should intervene more actively in such cases. Women who face online harassment will be given legal help through the county’s legal services office, she said.

The commission has received a complaint regarding online abuse of girls who participated in the recent protests in Delhi, it added.

Ms. Satheedevi also emphasized the need to strengthen oversight committees in local self-government institutions, saying they could help resolve local disputes, including property and boundary issues, at the local level.

The commission pointed out that several private establishments in Thrissur were still operating without setting up internal grievance committees as mandated by the Workplace Sexual Harassment (Prevention, Prohibition and Redressal) Act (POSH Act).

Commission member Indira Ravindran also attended the adalat.

A total of 41 complaints were discussed during the session. Seven cases were resolved, with five requiring notification from the police and local authorities. The remaining 29 complaints were postponed until the next meeting.

Most of the complaints related to domestic violence, dowry harassment, property disputes, workplace complaints and abuse through social media.
