‘I could not fulfill your wish’: NEET aspirant dies by suicide in Maharashtra | Today’s news
A 19-year-old National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) aspirant from Maharashtra’s Ahilyanagar district allegedly committed suicide after failing to score the marks she had hoped for in the medical entrance examination and leaving behind a handwritten note expressing anguish over her unfulfilled dream of becoming a doctor, according to multiple reports.
The deceased, identified as Ankita Sangle, was a resident of Jalalpur village in Karjat taluka. According to the police, she appeared for the NEET examination on May 3 and later re-examined on June 21 as per the revised examination schedule, NDTV reported.
Family members said she expected more than 300 points. However, when the results were announced, she scored 166, reportedly 11 short of the qualifying cutoff of 177, leaving her in deep despair.
Found hanged by her mother
According to police, the incident happened on Saturday around 4:30 p.m.
At the time of the incident, her father and brother were traveling to Pandharpur for Ashadhi Ekadashi darshan while her mother was at home.
Police said Ankita went to her study room. After not noticing any movement for a long time, the girl’s mother opened the door and found her hanging. She was pronounced dead.
During the investigation, police reportedly found a handwritten suicide note in the room.

In the note, Ankita apologized to her family for failing to live up to their expectations and urged them not to be held responsible for her death.
“You gave me so much love, but I couldn’t fulfill even one of your wishes. Mom, you supported me like a friend in every trouble… Brother, please take good care of mom and dad. May they not miss anything,” she wrote.
In another part of the note, she said that she fell into depression after failing to score the expected marks in NEET and that her dream of becoming a doctor remained unfulfilled.
The police have registered a case of accidental death and have started an investigation. Officials said the family did not allege any wrongdoing.
The incident comes amid a national debate on exam reforms and mounting pressure on students following the NEET controversy. Student groups recently organized week-long protests demanding more transparency and accountability in the conduct of the entrance medical examination. The agitation culminated in the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, with the Center securing discussions on wider examination reforms.
