The rights panel manages the Corpn. prepare an action plan for mosquito control in Kochi

The State Human Rights Commission (SHRC) has directed the Kochi Corporation to prepare and implement an action plan for mosquito control and sewage cleaning on a war footing amid reports of dengue fever spreading in various parts of the city.

SHRC Chairman Alexander Thomas directed the Corporation Secretary to call an urgent meeting of Clean City Manager, Head of the Corporation’s Health Wing and other stakeholders to formulate an effective plan. The measures should be introduced first in dengue-infested areas and later in the rest of the city, the order said.

The rights panel also directed the corporation to take into account the views of ward councilors and residents’ association officials while planning and implementing the programme.

The company secretary was asked to submit a report on the measures taken to the Commission within 10 days.

The commission asked the officials concerned to appear before it during a meeting at the Public Works Department (PWD) Rest House in Pathadipalam on August 10.

The order was issued in a suo motu case registered by the Commission based on media reports.
