President Rench Emmanuel Macron called for an immediate ceasefire in Ukraine on Sunday and condemned Russian continuing missile attacks on civilian areas and warned that stronger international events could follow if Moscow constantly rejects peace efforts.
Macron, formerly on Twitter, wrote: “These Russian strikes must stop. It must be reached as soon as possible. And strong steps must follow if Russia continues to stop and reject peace.”
His statement came in the middle of the national day of sadness in Ukraine after a deadly Russian missile strike in Kryvyi Rih 4. April, who killed several civilians, including children.
“On this day of national sadness in Ukraine, my thoughts with children and all civilian victims of deadly strikes made by Russia, such as in Kryvyi Rih 4,” April, “Macron wrote.
Russia continues to bombing despite the offer of a ceasefire
Macron emphasized the increase in Russian attacks focused on residential areas, despite the design of the ceasefire that Ukraine received almost a month ago.
“Last night, many Russian strikes in Kiev and several other Ukrainian cities were again targeted,” he said.
The French President noted that while Ukraine adopted US President Donald Trump’s proposal for a full and unconditional 30 -day ceasefire, Russia intensified its offensive.
“While Ukraine adopted President Trump’s proposal at full and unconditional 30 -day ceasefire almost a month ago, and when we work with all our partners to ensure peace, Russia continues its war with renewed intensity and does not show civilians.”
A deadly Russian strike threatens us with a ceasefire
Russian ballistic missile strike at Ukrainian President Volodymyra Zelsky’s hometown of Kryvyi Rih killed 20 people, including nine children, which has been one of the deadliest civilian attacks in recent months. Ukraine began three days of national sadness on Monday and held the vigiles in the central city in memory of the victims – 11 adults and nine children – who were killed on Friday evening attack, which hit the playground and nearby residential buildings.
The Ukrainian army said Russia used cluster ammunition in a densely populated area. Moscow denied the focus on civil infrastructure.
Trump frustrated by lack of progress
Trump, who promised to provide peace “within 24 hours” of his return to office, said last month that he was “angry” with Russian President Vladimir Putin over Moscow that he would not respond to a complete and unconditional ceasefire proposal together by the US and Ukraine.
Despite this proposal and a limited break on the energy infrastructure, Russia continued to bombing – Trump’s move says it undermines Washington’s peace ride.
The Kremlin supports the ceasefire but sets out the conditions
On Monday, the Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said that President Putin “supports the idea that a ceasefire is needed,” he said there were “many questions” about how it would work.
“These questions hang in the air,” Peskov said. “No one has answered them yet.”
He accused what he called the “uncontrollability of the Kiev regime” for lack of progress, and suggested that any ceasefire – including the proposed Black Sea agreement – will depend on the abolition of Western sanctions.
