CJP says Dharmendra Pradhan’s resignation non-negotiable as Nadda offers more talks with student protesters, Opposition | Today’s news
Union Health Minister JP Nadda on Wednesday said that the issue of paper leaks should not be politicized and it is a serious issue that needs an in-depth discussion.
Nadda, who is the Speaker of the House in the Rajya Sabha, said the government is ready to discuss all aspects of the NEET-UG paper leak in Parliament.
‘Cross the lines of guilt’
He told a press conference that the government led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi was “responsible and responsive”.
“We should go beyond accusations and counter-allegations and discuss it. Parliament is the best medium for discussion and we are ready for that discussion. Let there be a thorough discussion, we will delve into the details through an in-depth discussion. What are the factors that led to the paper leak? Who are the people affected and how has the central government responded?” he asked.
“How did we deal with this issue when we noticed the paper leak and how should other governments deal with it? What is the point that we should deeply consider and find a solution so that injustices do not happen to our millions of students?” he added.
Nadda, who along with Union Minister Jitendra Singh went to Gurgaon’s Medanta Hospital to meet activist Sonam Wangchuk, said they asked him to break his fast and lead the children.
Government ready for further negotiations: Nadda
Speaking to the Janata Party’s Cockroach, Nadda said the government was willing to hold further discussions with representatives of the organization leading protests against the paper leaks.
“The discussion was held in a very cordial atmosphere. We listened to their views very calmly. I also told them that it would be better if they put their points in writing. They put all those points in writing… I also told them that we are ready for discussion. Whenever they ask, we are ready to discuss things… We had no meeting today,” he said.
What Rahul Gandhi said
Earlier in a press conference after the Congress staged a protest at Lok Kalyan Marg against police action against protesters during the ‘Chalo Sansad’ march, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi said the party fully supported the demands of the students.
“It’s clear to everyone that our education system, which was known to be one of the best education systems in the world, is rigged today… What we do know is that there have been 152 paper leaks in the last decade. Reacting to Nadda, CJP chief spokesperson Saurav Das said that Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan’s resignation was “non-negotiable”, adding that the protest would continue until the demand was met.
