Sonam Wangchuk Health Update: Medanta Hospital said on Thursday that the activist’s condition remains stable and unchanged, adding that she is alert and her vital signs are within acceptable limits.
She further stated that all medical treatment is provided with the informed consent of Wangchuk.
“Mr. Sonam Wangchuk is being treated by a multidisciplinary team of doctors at Medanta Hospital Gurugram. His condition remains unchanged and he continues to be stable and alert, with vital signs within acceptable parameters. All treatment given to him is in accordance with his informed consent,” Medanta said in a statement.

A day earlier, Wangchuk reiterated that he would end his 25-day hunger strike only after receiving assurances that no legal action would be taken against the protesters.
In a video shared on X, Wangchuk said he lost 11 kilograms in 25 days of fasting. He also appreciated the participants of Cockroach Janata Party’s July 20 ‘Chalo Sansad’ march for maintaining peace despite police action.
He said, “I am still alive and this is the 25th day of my fast. By the 25th day, I lost 11 kilograms and there was significant muscle loss. However, I am fine. I was transferred from Safdarjung Hospital to a private hospital in Gurugram yesterday. I respect the students who protested peacefully even after being hit.”
“Even when you were incited and some elements were led to throw stones, you remained patient. My heart melted. As they were brutally attacked, I decided to continue the fast. Several leaders came asking me to end my fast,” the activist added.
Wangchuk sought assurances that the protesters would not face any charges or FIRs that could be used to intimidate with the threat of police action or imprisonment. He said that if such an assurance was given soon, he would consider ending the fast, but in its absence, he would have no choice but to continue the hunger strike.
Reiterating his demand, the activist mentioned, “Ministers, opposition leaders with (the letter) signed by 65 MPs have appealed to me to end my hunger strike and return to the service of the nation. I also want to do that; my work is also important. But I request the government not to use force against children. I want an assurance that there will be no accusations or threats of assurances that policemen can be respected soon. your feelings, today I can break the fast, but unless I receive such an assurance, I will unfortunately have to continue my hunger strike.”
Wangchuk’s transfer from Safarjung to Medanta Hospital
Wangchuk was discharged from Safdarjung Hospital on Tuesday evening and shifted to Medanta Hospital in Gurugram for further medical treatment on the orders of the Delhi High Court, officials said.
He was taken to Medanta by ambulance around 19:28 under strict security measures. A hospital official said Wangchuk was admitted to ICU 8 where treatment began under the supervision of Dr. Sushila Kataria, a specialist in internal medicine.
Earlier, the Delhi High Court had ordered authorities to immediately shift Wangchuk, who has been on an indefinite hunger strike since June 28 over alleged examination irregularities, from Safdarjung Hospital to Medanta Hospital in Gurugram.
