Delhi woke up to light rains on Monday morning as the capital braced itself for a reprieve from the hot and humid weather. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted very light to light rain at many places, light rain accompanied by thunderstorms or lightning at isolated places. Strong surface winds of 20-30 and reaching 40 km/h are likely from morning to midday.
For the rest of the day, residents of Delhi can expect “Further spell of very light to light rain at few places accompanied by thunderstorm/lightning and strong surface wind gusting to 20-30 km/h gusting to 40 km/h in the evening/night.”
The Meteorological Department has warned of active monsoon conditions over North-West, East and North-East India during this week and forecast rains in parts of Delhi-NCR and neighboring states. “Fairly widespread to widespread rainfall likely over Haryana Chandigarh & Delhi and Punjab during July 20-23; East Uttar Pradesh and West Uttar Pradesh during July 19-24; East Rajasthan during July 23-25,” the IMD said.
The IMD has not issued any weather advisory for July 20, but a yellow rain warning is in place for tomorrow and the day after.

The meteorological agency has predicted heavy rains over the country’s capital until July 23. According to the weather bulletin, isolated heavy rainfall is likely over Haryana, Delhi and Punjab on July 23 and isolated very heavy rainfall is likely till July 22. In Uttar Pradesh Uttar Pradesh wet likely till July 25.
Today’s temperature in Delhi
The maximum temperature over Delhi is expected to be -1.6°C to -3.0°C below normal around 32°C to 34°C, while the minimum temperature is most likely to settle in the range of 25°C to 27°C, around -1.5°C to 1.5°C) near normal. According to an IMD report issued on July 19 at 10:45 PM, no major change in maximum temperatures is likely during the next 24 hours, after which they will drop by 3-5°C.
Many stations in Delhi recorded around 40% humidity at 7:20 am and places like Mandi Marg, New Delhi and Palam were up to 80%. The New Delhi region recorded 85% humidity with a temperature of 30 degrees Celsius, while Palam recorded the highest humidity level of 89%. In the last month, Delhi recorded 41.8 mm of rainfall, which is a 44 percent deficit and a deviation of 32.3 mm from the normal range.

At 7:05 am, the city recorded an air quality index (AQI) value of 138 with air quality falling under the ‘moderate’ category, according to Sameer App of Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB).
